Join us as we celebrate an exciting new chapter for Growing Roots Montessori Preschool: the grand opening of our new Infant and Toddler Room!
This new space marks an important step toward expanding our Montessori community to serve our youngest learners, from birth to age three.
We are especially grateful to Custer Lutheran Fellowship for their incredible generosity, partnership, and support in helping make this new space possible. Their commitment to Growing Roots and the families of our community has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.
We invite our families, friends, and community members to join us in celebrating this milestone, exploring the new space, and thanking the people who helped make it happen.

Join us for one of our favorite Growing Roots traditions: our Annual Harvest Dinner Potluck!
Our preschoolers will help prepare a warm, homemade vegetable soup to share with family, friends, and community members. This cozy fall gathering is a chance to celebrate the season, enjoy good food, and connect with the Growing Roots community.
We'll provide the soupāplease bring your favorite side dish to share!

Annual Lantern Walk š

Join Growing Roots for our Annual Lantern Walk, a magical winter tradition celebrating the season, the Winter Solstice, and the warmth of community.
Children will light the way with their handmade lanterns as we gather for a peaceful evening walk through the woods. Together, we'll welcome the winter season with glowing lanterns, songs, a warming fire, and sweet treats like hot chocolate and s'mores.
This special evening is an opportunity for Growing Roots families, friends, and community members to slow down, connect with nature, and share a little light during the darkest time of the year.

Growing Roots Fall/Winter Outdoor Gear Swap ššāļøāļø
Dates: Tuesday, October 13 & Wednesday, October 14, 2026
Time: During regular Growing Roots hours & parent/teacher conferences

Growing Roots families, friends, and alumni are invited to our Fall/Winter Outdoor Gear Swap ā Round 2! Pass along clean, usable outdoor gear your child has outgrown and shop for fall and winter gear your family can use this season. Everything is free, and you do not need to donate in order to shop.
Drop-Off: Monday, September 28 ā Monday, October 12
Drop off items using the designated bin outside the church. Weāre keeping the donation bin out for two full weeks this round to give families more time to go through last yearās fall and winter gear and drop items off during regular preschool days & parent/teacher conferences.
Shop: Tuesday, October 13 & Wednesday, October 14
The Gear Swap will be open for two shopping days so families on both the M/W/F and T/Th preschool schedules have an opportunity to participate.
Weāre looking for clean, usable baby and kidsā fall/winter outdoor gear, including:
Coats and jackets
Snow pants, snow bibs, and snowsuits
Rain gear
Snow boots
Hiking shoes
Winter hats
Waterproof, insulated mittens
Fleece
Neck warmers
Other warm outdoor layers
Backpacks
Water bottles
Lunch bags
This swap is specifically for fall/winter gear and outdoor gear only. Please do not bring spring/summer clothing, sun or UPF gear, general clothing, pajamas, toys, books, or household items.Ā
$100 South Dakota Outdoor Shop Giveaway
Families and friends of Growing Roots can also enter to win a $100 gift card to South Dakota Outdoor Shop. You do not need to donate gear in order to enter the giveaway.
Remaining outdoor gear will be made available to church families after the swap and then donated locally.

FREE Community Outdoor Obstacle Course! šæĀ Ā

Growing Roots is excited to partner with Early Learner Custer to bring families a fun-filled evening of outdoor play, movement, and community!
Kids will have the chance to climb, balance, jump, crawl, and explore through an exciting obstacle course set up throughout our outdoor classroom - designed to keep little bodies moving while having a blast.
This free community event is geared toward children ages 0 - 8, but older siblings and kids are welcome to join the fun too!
Bring your friends, wear clothes you can move in, and come spend an evening playing outside with us. We canāt wait to see you there!

Join us at The Barrel Room at Mt. Rushmore Brewing Company in Custer, SD for an upscale, family-friendly fundraising dinner to celebrate and support the opening of our new 0ā3 classroom. This vital expansion will help us create a nurturing, child-centered space with specialized teacher training, new materials, and a full classroom renovation. Guests will enjoy Cancun-inspired cuisine with fresh spring flavors, and attire is dressy casual.Ā

The Mission: Your ticket and cookie purchases secure the future of Growing Roots Preschool. We are fundraising for CLF's urgent, $38,000 fire sprinkler projectāvital for maintaining our school's license and safety.
The Match: Every dollar donated to the fund is DOUBLED! Help us unlock the full $3,000 Anonymous Donor Match.
What to Expect: A festive, fun-filled night of cookie decorating followed by a Christmas sing-along!
Action: Buy tickets and pre-order take-home cookie dozens (please try to order by Nov 17th, though we will bake some extras) to support our safety goal!

A Warm Glow: Reflecting on Our 2nd Annual Lantern WalkĀ

We were thrilled to welcome over 40 members of our community to our 2nd Annual Lantern Walk, celebrating winter, the Solstice and gathering during the Holidays. Ā The evening was filled with magic as children used their handcrafted lanterns, casting a warm glow on the gathering. While we experienced a minor hot chocolate temperature mishap (we'll be better prepared next time!), the spirit of the evening remained bright. We enjoyed a beautiful walk through the woods, gathered around a warming fire, made s'mores and shared the children's songs for a evening to remember.Ā
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended and to all those who support Growing Roots. Your participation and encouragement allow us to create these meaningful community experiences. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
