Growing Roots is committed to making high-quality Montessori-inspired preschool and childcare in Custer, South Dakota accessible to local families. We believe financial barriers should not prevent children from receiving strong early childhood education in the Black Hills.
Thanks to the generosity of our small-town community and local donors, scholarships are available to help families and support children as they learn and grow.

Scholarships are open to families who may need help with tuition. You do not need to meet state income limits to apply. We review each family’s situation individually through a simple, respectful process.

Residents of Custer and surrounding Black Hills communities
Families who demonstrate financial need

Growing Roots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit preschool serving families in Custer, South Dakota and across the Black Hills. As a community-supported early childhood education program, we reinvest donations, grants, and scholarship funds directly back into our classrooms and students.
Our nonprofit model allows us to focus on children and families first. Through local partnerships and community support, we work to keep high-quality preschool and childcare accessible for families in our region.
